Insurance Snafus and Solutions
So, even with the insurance company finally accepting the exception for our midwife, the snafus aren't over yet.
Earlier in the week we got the bill from the lab for the bloodwork done at the first midwife's visit. All the tests for bloodtype and immunity to various childhood diseases, STD and HIV tests etc. A bill totalling almost $700, so needless to say we weren't too thrilled.
The lab's bill stated that the claim had been denied by the insurance company, and we figured it was because the work had been done before the insurance company had accepted the claim.
Turns out, luckily, that it was more of an administrative screw up. For some reason they'd neglected to add the 3 letter code which specifies which particular participating company under the Blue Cross/Blue Shield group should have the bill forwarded to them. So the bill was never forwarded on to our insurance company, and got rejected from the Blue Cross/Blue Shield office where it had been sent to.
It's nice though that PreZ now has a direct number to a supervisor at our insurance company, so we don't have to deal with the usual claims people and get the go around there.
In another piece of insurance company related news... they're reimbursing us $250 (their annual maximum) for the birthing class package we signed up for. I believe it's part of the plan, though if not, it's NY state law that they have to cover some education of that kind. It's definitely more than we expected them to cover, and it covers most of the cost which is nice.
The first of that class starts on Tuesday. Every Tuesday in March we have a 3 hour comprehensive birth prep. class. Then there's one Tuesday in April where we have a breastfeeding class, and one where we have a newborn care class.
