Elevation
Sakina called this afternoon to give me the results to Friday's glucose test. The levels were slightly elevated, again. So I guess technically that means I have gestational diabetes.
Fun.
Mostly though this means adapting diet. She'd like me to eat 2200 calories a day, with a max of 2500. For someone who's never counted calories in her life (not even when I did diet) this is certainly going to be interesting. And it was mainly the starches and carbs to cut back on. I think I know where the major tweaking points need to be, but Sakina's also going to fax me over some nutritional info stuff as well, and we'll discuss it more on Friday.
This does mean that I'm going to need more bloodwork, just to monitor how my insulin is working etc. (pre-breakfast blood compared with post-breakfast blood) So I'll get jabbed a few more times before the baby arrives. Not sure yet if that's going to be on a weekly schedule or every two weeks.
And I'm being scheduled for a second ultrasound, just to check and make sure that that "big baby" thing isn't happening, which is one of the potential side effects. Now unless they're really going to think it's going to be an insanely huge baby, I'm not going to put too much stock in that, knowing that ultrasounds are unreliable anyway, especially in late pregnancy, and especially in regards to estimating weight (with them often being a pound or more off, and usually estimating large when the babies are normal or even small). Seeing as I'm generally measuring a fraction behind on my fundal height checks, I seriously doubt that the u/s is going to give any indication at all of an oversized baby, which was also what Sakina said.
Either way, my midwife isn't worried, and neither am I. I'll just watch the food intake for the next few weeks, and we'll see what happens.
