Two Weeks Notice

Just over two weeks, and while I'm still not getting much of any sleep, I surprised myself by actually managing to read the latest Harry Potter book in something like 3 days, mostly whilst unable to sleep during either a fussy session or a breastfeeding session. Right now I'm reading through the Writhe and Shine Collection, which contains all of Robert Tritthardt's W&S webcomics, he collected them all in a trade paperback, which you can get at his website, http://www.writheandshine.com/. Thursday night/Friday morning Dashiell decided to give me a taste of what it's probably like when a growth spurt hits, by being awake and wanting to be fed every hour for several hours. And this started just as I decided to go to sleep, after he'd already been awake for hours and had finally decided to fall asleep. That level of sleep deprivation is certainly a sure fire way to slay someone. PreZ was awake, working on fixing up GOTH.NET which has had it's harddisk replaced and new software etc. installed, and while he took care of the diaper changes that happened during that time, as well as some soothing of Dashiell, there still wasn't much he could do about the fact that Dashiell was hungry each hour. He told me at one point that he'd walked into the room to find me asleep with Dashiell asleep on my chest. I'd fallen asleep while breastfeeding (sitting up in bed propped up with pillows), and Dashiell had fallen asleep at the breast, or fallen asleep under the breast seeing as he'd unlatched. He was tempted to take a picture because it was cute, but apparantly it had too much breast/nipple in it to ever have been for public consumption, so he refrained.

The first growth spurt generally happens around 3 weeks, so it's entirely possible that he's starting early. We'll see if the morning brings a repeat performance. Right now though he's managing a couple hours of sleep without feeding (evenings are his best sleeping times), so I doubt it's really a growth spurt yet.

On Tuesday he had his 2 week pediatrician check-up. He was 7lb14oz, so a good 8oz over his birth weight, which also makes for a 10oz total weight gain if you calculate the post-birth weight loss in as well. His body length was still the same though, and his head is apparantly measuring a bit small, so they'll be keeping an eye out for that. There was also a continuation of the blood draw saga which started at his 3 day check-up, which I haven't yet expounded upon, but probably will soon.

He's due for another growth check-up in 2 weeks, and in just under 3 weeks he'll get his newborn hearing test done. The audiologist (?) was booked solid until then. In the hospital this test would have been done at birth, along with some of the bloodwork we had done at his 3 day. We know he can hear though, because he responds to sounds.

Other than that he's doing well, and doing all the usual baby stuff... eat, sleep, poo, pee fuss etc. And he's as adorable as ever.
