Monthly Newsletter: Month Two

Dear Dashiell,

On Wednesday you turned two months old. To celebrate this anniversary, I took you to the pediatric geneticist, where you got stabbed with needles again for a bloodtest. I apologise profusely for this. Your check-up with the cardiologist showed no changes in the murmur, but nothing to worry about. At your 2 month pediatrician check-up you had grown to 9lb10oz, 2lb4oz bigger than you were 7.5 weeks prior at birth, and you had also grown an inch and a quarter in length. Way to go!

This month you've started doing a whole bunch of new things. As of a few weeks you now coo and prattle, which is very adorable, and you especially seem to like to have conversations with me while I change your diaper. Or maybe you're just telling me to hurry it up because you have important baby things to do. You've also started cracking some smiles and laughs amidst the cooing. And you have discovered your hands, and that you can eat them. Or at least try. You seem to favour the left one at the moment, but I have no idea whether that has anything to do with you becoming a leftie like your Opa Tjerk, or just a rightie like most of the rest of us.

I'm often highly amused when you start ravenously attacking your hand in your sleep, which is a nice signal that you'll be awake soon enough and that I can prepare for you wanting to eat.

At times you seem very frustrated by your baby limitations, and require that we sit you up so that you can look around. Thankfully your headcontrol is getting better and better, so that your neck isn't quite as floppy, which makes things easier for us, and is much more satisfying for you no doubt.

Sleeping has been a little easier for me this month, especially since we now have the side-lying breastfeeding thing down pat. All I need to do is latch you on and we can both keep sleeping. In the last week things have become a lot easier for me on the daytime front with you... previously you needed to be in arms pretty much 24/7 and whenever you were put down in your bouncer while awake, or even asleep, or if we tried to put you into your own or our bed when you were asleep, you would be awake within 5-10 minutes. This meant that I had precious little time to do anything around the house, and often only managed to eat something and have a shower. Today you've even been napping quite extensively in your own bed without waking up quickly, I'm so impressed (and the laundry and our apartment thank you for this). Maybe now I can actually watch that infant massage tape and try it out on you, seeing as you're much happier than you used to be if you're not being held for a little while.

You were also taken to show off at your dad's bowling league, where you charmed everyone before the games started, and then proceeded to sleep through all the bowling until we got home. There were people there who were envious of how comfy you looked in your sling.

We even took you out to a restaurant to have dinner with Tom, Karen, Kit, Audrey and Charlotte, and you slept through the whole thing. I guess that doesn't make the dinner very interesting to you, but we were well impressed that you let us have a semblance of a social life outside the house without screaming bloody murder.

So this was a pretty good month Dash.

Love,

Mama
