Monthly Newsletter: Month Three

Dear Dashiell,

Friday you turned 3 months old.

In the last month you had another visit with the cardiologist Dr. Crowe. Still no change there, but no news is good news as they say. Or at least it isn't bad news. You get to have more time between visits, so Dr. Crowe obviously isn't too worried or concerned about you. Hopefully there will be change for the better next time though, as I'd like it to resolve naturally rather than with any kind of intervention. The visit with the cardiologist was your only doctor's appointment this month, which makes a change from the previous two. You weighed in at 10lb8oz at that visit and measured 23 1/4 inches.

This month was a month with many firsts, though as a baby I guess there are lots of firsts no matter which month you're in.

First of all, you met your uncle Nachty, because Patrick was over from Los Angeles helping his sister move. I think he would have loved to have taken you home, because he thought you were the coolest baby ever.

Secondly, you attended your first barbecue. It was a barbecue with former co-workers of PreZ's, from his first job here in the US, at Micromuse. A small gathering with only your parents, Fuat, Melissa and their bookworm daughter Jenny in attendance. Everyone else piked. You slept through most of it, but that was probably best, as it was really warm and I expect you would have been very cranky if you'd been awake for a lot of it.

Thirdly, you met your paternal grandparents. Your nanna Irene and grandpa Preston came to visit from Australia. Irene stayed with us, and Preston stayed with his sister about 20 minutes away. You got to show off to your nanna lots, including showing her what a happy chappy you are early in the morning. Or what a happy little vegemite you are, as she calls you.

I think it was definitely a good time for them to meet you. Your head control is getting a lot better, and you're smiling, laughing, cooing and talking a lot, so lots of stuff to charm them with.

Other firsts this month were long car journeys and two plane trips, because we went down to North Carolina with your grandparents to visit some of the other relatives. On the flight to Raleigh you only cried and were fussy a bit during take-off and landing, and pretty much slept the rest of the time, and you managed to sleep for the entire 3+ hour drive from Raleigh to about 10 minutes outside of Morehead City. On the way home you only woke up twice to feed, and slept the entire flight without even waking up for take-off and landing. I was very impressed indeed.

In North Carolina you got to meet lots of your dad's relatives, including your cousin (or second or third or whichever) Dustin, who is a few months older than you. He seemed very interested in trying to play with you, but you're still in a much more self-absorbed state and didn't notice him. Probably a good thing, because he's way bigger than you are. Strange to think that you might be that size in mere months.

The downside to the North Carolina trip was that it threw your sleep schedule out of whack, and the various family gatherings meant that I couldn't sleep late to catch up, so you turned your mummy into a bit of a zombie for the trip.

Another first was your first train trip, your first trip into New York City, and your first time meeting PreZ's co-workers, which was this past Tuesday, when we went to meet up with various relatives to have lunch before they headed back to Florida. You slept through most of the train trip in each direction. This seems to be a trend. I can't complain though, I'm sure most other travellers, on whatever mode of transport, appreciate your comatose state of being.

You're getting a lot bigger, even though sometimes it's not noticeable and people still find you so small. You are still small, but you started off a lot smaller.

This month has been a lot of fun Dash, I've enjoyed seeing you be all giggly and laugh through your first diaper change of the day, thankful to get out of that thing. The way you try and stand up and sometimes bob up and down through your knees whilst laughing a lot as I hold you up with your feet touching the floor cracks me up something fierce, which is good, because that helps me not feel so bad about being up way too early on too little sleep.

I look forward to what you do this month.

Love,

Mama
