The Nights That Suck

Sometimes you have those times that really suck to be a parent. Tonight was one such instance.

Dashiell woke up at 11.30, he was kind of hungry but I also desperately needed to go to the bathroom, so PreZ tried to entertain him for the 2 minutes I was out of the room. The crying however didn't cease for over an hour and fifteen minues.

Yep. There was over an hour and fifteen minutes of inconsolable crying.

We went through every trick in the book to settle him down several times, to no avail. The crying also stuffed up his nose, which made it harder for him to breathe. Everytime he'd calm down quite a bit, he'd do one of those stuttery hiccupy "I just had a big cry" intakes of breathe, realise that the air intake through his nose wasn't as free flowing as usual, get frustrated and start crying all over again. Rinse and repeat many times. Of course not being able to breathe properly through your nose is also annoying when trying to eat... so until he was calm enough that he was breathing in normal slow breaths, I couldn't feed him, and because he'd already woken up in the first place because he was hungry, and that being over an hour earlier, it didn't help his mood any.

He finally settled down enough that I could latch him on. He fell asleep after only minutes, which wasn't particularly surprising. I put him down in his bouncer while I went to the bathroom again, and he was awake when I got back. Latched him on again, and fed him for a lot longer. Off we headed to bed as he was out cold after a while.

Half an hour later, just as I'm drifting off to sleep, he wakes up.

Now it's almost quarter past 3, and we're still awake. Argh. I'll add that I was really tired before all this started too.
