Early Intervention
The IFSP meeting on the 28th went well. As per the evaluation summary we had received a week prior, Dashiell has been accepted into the Early Intervention program.
He'll be receiving physical therapy at low frequency, once a week for 45 minutes, occupational therapy at moderate frequency, twice a week for 45 minutes each, and special instruction once a week for 45 minutes. The special instruction is a teacher who comes to our house who'll show us how to stimulate him cognitively.
I was on the phone with our ongoing services coordinator Valerie, who has scouted out people for us. They'll be calling sometime soon to set up a schedule. I know the special instruction teacher can only come at 7.30am, but for once a week that'll be doable. She's apparantly really good and worth waiting for. The PT is apparantly one of the top 4 in the country, and the OT also is among the top in the country. So Dash is really going to get excellent care.
Today I got the prescriptions from the pediatrician for the PT and OT and I faxed them on to the home therapy agency HTA (I'm not sure if that's actually what the acronym stands for, they always refer to their agency as HTA). We'll be able to kill two birds with one stone with that pediatrician's visit, as we need someone who isn't related to Dashiell to fill in information and to guarantor for his Australian passport application. If they're American they need to hold a specific job, and in both cases, whether it's an Australian or other citizen, they need to have known him from birth. So the pediatrician is the only one that fits that bill at the moment. The downside is that the ped's office was so busy I had to just leave the form and I have to go back tomorrow to pick it up.
This evening I got a call from the PT, Pearly (not entirely sure on the spelling though), and we set up what day she'll be coming. Starting next week Dash will be getting PT on Thursday mornings from 11.15 until noon.
Tomorrow I need to follow up with Valerie, call the other therapist and the special instructor who left messages (at least I know the SI did), call the cardiologist, pick up the forms, and try tidy this place up. The SI sounded like a guy (I was half asleep when the message came), so I'm not entirely sure if it's the one that Valerie originally had in mind, but we'll see.
