Passports and Therapy

Monday we took Dashiell into NYC for an appointment with the Australian consulate. He'd received his excerpt of birth abroad/citizenship recently, so the next step was for us to go apply for an Australian passport for him. We arrived at the consulate over half an hour early due to the times the train runs, but thankfully we didn't have to wait that long and got seen earlier. Amusingly the guy who was going through the application with us was from Trinidad, is not an Aussie, and has never been to Australia, even though he's worked there for 15 years. It just struck me as a bit odd for an employee of the consulate.

Other than going through the forms and paying for the passport and processing, that was it and we were out of there fairly quickly. I was impressed that a couple of hours later Tom informed me that the Australian Embassy had called him to verify things, as he was a witness to our signatures. All in all, in about 2 weeks we should have Dash's Australian passport.

Later that afternoon we had a visit from the Special Instructor, Gregory. Mostly it was just a visit to get to know each other, discuss the services, and for us to give him the basics on Dash. Further visits will be on Tuesdays at 3.30pm. I'm not entirely sure what exactly SI will bring to the table in regards to Dash, but I guess we'll see.

I'm still playing phone tag with the Occupational Therapist Sarah, which is kind of annoying. Hopefully I can get a hold of her sometime later today or this evening. Or that she gets a hold of us, as I did leave a message on her answering machine earlier.

Valerie, our ongoing service coordinator will be dropping by on Thursday afternoon to say hi so that we can put a face to a name, and to pass on some information and all that.

Yesterday I also received the journal in the mail that I want to use as a written record of Dash's life, for him to read when he's older. Sure, there is this website and the monthly newsletters that I post there too, but there's something nice about a tangible paper journal.
